Guide to Federal Funding Opportunities for Grid Modernization and Resilience

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act created several new grant programs for grid resilience, and funded and expanded the Smart Grid Investment grant program. These programs make $13 billion available to state agencies and public and private utilities, including electric cooperatives. Projects to improve the flexibility and capacity of the transmission grid with Grid-Enhancing Technologies are eligible for both resilience and Smart Grid grants.

Several state public service commissions have already opened proceedings to investigate the opportunities for this funding. The WATT Coalition encourages all state agencies to pursue the available funding, and ensure that regulated entities are also pursuing the vital investments in local infrastructure that these programs will support.
