WATT

The Working for Advanced Transmission Technologies (WATT Coalition) submitted reply comments to FERC on its Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking: Building for the Future Through Electric Regional Transmission Planning and Cost Allocation and Generator Interconnection. The comments are available for download.

In the WATT Coalition’s survey of initial comments on the ANOPR, we identified 90 parties in the docket specifically recommended that Grid Enhancing Technologies (GETs) be incorporated into long-term planning and/or interconnection processes.

The WATT Coalition agrees with this broad consensus and recommends that the Commission proceeds with specific directives in either a transmission planning rule or interconnection rule requiring the consideration of GETs.

The depth and breadth of support for GETs is broad. Supporters include state regulators, market monitors, ISO/RTOs, transmission owners, retail, residential, commercial, and industrial consumer groups, wholesale consumer interests including transmission-dependent utilities, state energy offices, environmental NGOs, and clean energy industry organizations.

The appendix to the WATT Coalition reply comments provides a list of parties that recommended inclusion of GETs, along with citations to the specific point in their comments.
